How times change: had to Yamaha at the start of the unconventionally styled TDM 850 with its bulging eyes that took some getting used to, the TDM 900, which has been sold since 2002, has established itself as an alternative for individualists right from the start. Amazingly, the original concept of the all-rounder has not been shaken. Although the 900 is a completely new design, you sit upright on it with your arms stretched behind the long tank. Together with the footrests that are placed far forward, this results in a very passive sitting position with little feedback from the front wheel. Regardless of this, the not too heavy TDM 900 masters even tricky curve combinations with almost playful ease. And even at high speeds it is still stable and inspires confidence. She also deserves praise for top brakes? since 2005 with ABS ?? and the high quality of workmanship. The coordination of the spring elements is less successful: at the rear
too hard, too soft at the front. The smooth-running, economical and very reliable two-cylinder engine acts more harmoniously, but its even power development is somewhat clouded by harsh load change reactions. It’s a shame that, of all things, this has hardly changed over the years.
