45,178 readers took part in the reader survey on the Best Brands 2020 – thank you for that! You could tick all brands whose products convince you. A ranking was created from this survey. The most frequently named brand in the respective category was Best Brand 2020. Below you can see the results from the categories tires, backpacks, boots, textile clothing, insurance, tools and accessories / conversions.

In part 1 you can see the winners and top 10 placements in the categories exhausts, biker jeans, brake systems, chassis tuning, chain stores, luggage systems / suitcases, gloves and helmets.

In part 2 we present you the winners and top 10 placements in the following categories: chain sprays / cleaning / care products, communication systems, leather clothing, navigation systems, oils / lubricants as well as online shops and protectors.

Best Brand 2020 winner in the tire category: Metzeler

Something has really brewed here. While Metzeler had easily won the readers’ poll last year, the air at the top has become thin despite a new slick, a very sporty road tire and a touring bike. Above all, Continental has made a huge leap forward and is almost hanging on Michelin and Pirelli. All brands in the top ten had to give up, except Conti. As we know, the Hanoverians can iron across the street not only in the dry, but also in the rain. The ContiTrailAttack 3 enduro tire tested by our MOTORRAD also received consistent praise in 2019. In the everyday standings, on the country road and in terms of wear, he left the competition behind. These are the results that owners of powerful adventure tourers like.

Rucksacks

Best Brand 2020 winner in the backpack category: SW-Motech

It must have a lot of storage space, it should be well padded, robust and waterproof. It is best to add reflective stripes. The backpack is ready. Enough for now. Everything else is a luxury. Thanks to this fact, SW-Motech climbed from sixth to first place in popularity with MOTORRAD readers within four years with a balanced price / performance ratio. The big brands are all doing well, although with the exception of the German bags by Touratech and Ortlieb, all are made in the Far East.

Boots

Best Brand 2020 winner in the boots category: Daytona

Once Daytona, always Daytona. When Helmut Frey walks through the paddock with a shoebox, it’s not just someone who comes along, but an authority. Together with his brother Reinhard, he is a living legend among boot manufacturers. Your creations are indestructible on the racetrack as well as in everyday use. They have always focused on boots for motorcyclists, nothing else. That’s why they have the best. In this respect, the vote has not been any different for the last 15 years. The space available behind the all-time winner has long been clarified and unchanged.

Textile clothing

Best Brand 2020 winner in the textile clothing category: Held

The class win went to Held for the sixth time in a row. She was the only competitor to crack the 40 percent hurdle this year. Rukka fell back down and is on par with Dainese. The first textile jackets for motorcyclists were made by Held in 1991. Nowadays, safety is supported by D3O protectors in the shoulders and elbows. The material contains intelligent molecules that move freely, making it soft and flexible. In the event of an impact, it hardens in a fraction of a second and absorbs the impact energy.

Insurance

Best Brand 2020 winner in the insurance category: HUK Coburg

HUK Coburg was able to expand its leadership position. The word has got around that bikers can also get a lot of service here at a reasonable price. In an emergency, claims processing is fairly straightforward and the insurer is so well positioned with branches that you have a personal contact. Some things can only be clarified in a conversation and not by email or phone. The economical online subsidiary in second place does not offer that, but is easy on the wallet. The ADAC scores as third with its yellow angels on the road, which help with breakdowns. But motorcyclists are sensitive: here, too, the majority of all offers are aimed at motorists and the ADAC also has the service paid for well.

Tools

Best Brand 2020 winner in the tools category: Hazet

The 15th victory in a row goes to Hazet. The tools are German workmanship. Before the Second World War, the family business was the first in Europe to introduce nickel-chromium coating to protect the surface of hand tools. Whoever buys Hazet has something for life. Would you like an example? The new fine-tooth reversible ratchet would be a real powerhouse. With a maximum torque of 120 Nm, the 116 mm short quarter-inch version is almost twice as resilient as DIN demands. Such good pieces should stay in the family and the heirs should be carefully selected. Hazet is the official partner of the Nurburgring and the Porsche Carrera Cup. These two only rely on seasoned specimens and are no different here than motorcyclists. But Gedore is also in demand and is exactly at the previous year’s level on the popularity scale. Gedore has created many jobs in Remscheid. A settlement was even named after the company founders. Proxxon wears it with composure, but still has many friends and offers customers solid basic equipment at a fair price. Our MOTORRAD readers honored this with third place.

Accessories / conversions

Best Brand 2020 winner in the Accessories / Conversions category: Wunderlich

Almost no stone was left unturned here. The hit list of the most sought-after providers was turned upside down. In spite of the sustained steep flight, Wunderlich pushed Touratech off the throne and went one step further. The company, which recently relocated from Sinzig to Grafschaft-Ringen, specializes in BMW and does it so well that even a staid model can become an eye-catcher. In any case, the accessories catalog is available and, as is well known, there are also plenty of BMW drivers. A fresh wind is blowing from the Rhineland. All of this is happening on the 35th anniversary of Wunderlich this year. Touratech is therefore not really less sympathetic. However, LSL had to leave the podium. Givi, who was still in seventh place last year, has disappeared into oblivion. In return, alpha Technik resides in the top ten again.
