It’s as tight as in the IDM-Supersport 300 in all solo classes. The IDM season, which is compressed into just four runs in six weeks, ensures high tension.

The new season of the International German Motorcycle Championship (IDM) starts in Assen next weekend. Due to the corona pandemic, the season starts later than planned. It is also condensed into four events within six weeks. The tightly staggered calendar alone guarantees excitement in all categories. But the level is also much higher than in previous years: the IDM is more powerful than it has been for a long time.

According to the current status, spectators are not allowed to attend any IDM events. All races are live stream at idm.de/live transmitted and on our YouTube channel.

Don’t miss a stream, download your calendar entry now!

  • Opening runs on Saturday (August 15, 2020 from 3:55 p.m.)

IDM Superbike: Follower against Mikhalchik

Before the start of the season on the Dutch MotoGP track, all eyes are on Jonas Folger. The former MotoGP rider starts his racing comeback on a Yamaha from the Bonovo Action by MGM Racing team. In the IDM Superbike 1000, the 26-year-old meets two-time champion Ilya Mikhalchik. The 23-year-old Ukrainian wants to defend his title on the BMW of the EGS-alpha-Van Zon BMW Team and become champion for the third time in a row.

However, the defending champion knows that his competition in the premier class has become greater than in previous years: “We now have five, six or even seven drivers who can win races.” This promises more variety, especially for the second run of an IDM event with an inverted starting grid for the first three rows. “We will see many new faces on the podium”, predicts the BMW driver.

Strong elite in the premier class

In addition to Jonas Folger, the strongest Mikhalchik hunters include, for example, IDM returnees Florian Alt on the Wilbers team’s BMW, Bastien Mackels, the veteran who has switched to Bayer Bikerbox to Yamaha, and runner-up Julian Puffe on a Honda from Jens Holzhauer’s ex-master team and Kawasaki lone fighter Erwan Nigon, the long-distance world champion from France.

After strong lap times in the Hockenheim test, Ilya Mikhalchik’s new team-mate Vladimir Leonov has to be reckoned with. Master maker Werner Daemen has signed the 33-year-old driver from Moscow for his EGS-alpha-Van Zon BMW team. The Swiss Dominic Schmitter was also very quick at the Hockenheim test in July on the Hess team’s Yamaha. The 26-year-old Swiss champion could cause surprises in the IDM premier class.

IDM Supersport / Superstock 600: Max Enderlein and the title hat trick

Like BMW driver Ilya Mikhalchik, Max Enderlein, defending champion in the IDM Supersport 600, wants to become champion for the third time in a row. The 23-year-old Yamaha rider from the racing town of Hohenstein-Ernstthal was barely able to test before the start of the season because of his final exam for a master’s degree in business administration. Only one test in Oschersleben was possible for the Saxon before the first start in Assen. For the start, the Freudenberg WorldSSP Academy pilot has the 18-year-old Dutchman Sander Kroeze and the ex-Moto3 World Championship pilot Karel Hanika on the list as main competitors. Other favorites include runner-up Marc Buchner, Croatian Martin Vugrinec, the fastest Kawasaki driver Luca Grunwald and IDM returnees Victor Steeman and Dion Otten.

IDM Supersport 300: Lennox and the Flying Dutchman

The drivers in the strong junior class IDM Supersport 300 also ensure maximum excitement. The thrilling slipstream battles are typical of the races, in which a lot of tactical skill is required in addition to driving quality. The Dutch talents Rick Dunnik on Yamaha and Colin Velthuizen on Kawasaki start the new season as favorites. Lennox Lehmann has set himself the goal of being among the top five in the championship. The 14-year-old from Dresden is the last overall winner of the ADAC Junior Cup to switch to the Supersport 300. The KTM rider remains loyal to his Freudenberg SMC WorldSSP Academy team.

IDM Sidecar: World Champion Tim Reeves is the favorite

In the IDM Sidecar, the eight-time world champion and IDM champion Tim Reeves is going into the short season as the clear favorite in the 600 cm3 class. With the Frenchman Kevin Rousseau he has brought a new co-driver on board the Adolf RS1-Yamaha. Reeves / Rousseau are also at the head of a new top team: Bonovo Action by MGM Racing also includes ex-world champions Bennie Streuer / Ilse de Haas and Josef Sattler. With Luca Schmidt as a co-driver, the German relies on a 17-year-old talent. The German-Swiss team Mike Roscher / Anna Burkhard with the LCR-BMW is the favorite of the 1000 cc sidecars that are only used nationally after the runner-up title last year. Both classes contest the races together, but are rated separately. The IDM Sidecar are present at all events except the Sachsenring.
