21,728 motorcycles were registered in France in May 2011. Large engines in particular improved their score by + 20.1% compared to May 2010, but public holidays were favorable this year. Analyzes, charts and explanations.

The results for the month of May 2011 are excellent for the French motorcycle: the International Chamber of the Automobile and Motorcycle Union (CSIAM) has identified 8,990 registrations of 125 cc (+ 2.8%) and 12,738 motorcycles and scooters with larger displacement (+ 20.1%).
The market for motorized two-wheelers over 50 cc – "motorcycles", therefore – gave a real boost to a month from the end of the first half, so that the 125, which we feared threatened by the new compulsory 7-hour training limit the breakage over the first five months with a drop in their registrations of -6.6%. For their part, the large cubes recorded a pleasing increase of + 11.3%.
It is, however, a question of being cautious about the figures for May, because the dealers and the prefectures did not "idle" last month: May 1 and 8 fell on Sundays, while the Ascension Thursday and Pentecost Monday are "postponed" to June…
In the end, May 2011 had 22 working days compared to 19 in May 2010, which is far from negligible. The same goes for the "opening days of concessions": 22 last month against 18 in May 2010, or 22% more time to argue, sell … and register !
By consulting the Site archives, we also realize that the results for the month of May 2010 were not glorious: -13.7% among the 125 and -20.8% among the "over 125" (read).
From a weather point of view, the month of May was particularly favorable to the practice – and to the purchase – of two-wheelers: Meteo France assures that May 2011 counted among "the sunniest May of the last 20 years", that he was"driest in 50 years (37% of monthly normal)"and that it is"at the top of the hottest May months since the start of the 20th century"… Just that !
If we add to this the record attendance of the public at the Grand Prix de France MotoGP in Sarthe, where many brands had a stand and even offered tests, we can easily understand the success of motorcycles in our territory. !
