Ducati is particularly active at the EICMA motorcycle show in Milan with, among other things, a fairly significant overhaul of its standard Hypermotard, SP and Hyperstrada for 2016.

Going from 812 to 937cc, the twin cylinder of the Hypermotard 939 range now meets Euro4 standards and develops 113 hp and 97.9 Nm, i.e. an announced torque gain of 10%.

The biggest visual change is in the exhaust of these 2016 Hypermotards, whose more prominent and less graceful exit is imposed by Euro4 standards. "This is an obligation on the new 2016 motorcycles", reminds us Thierry Mouterde, boss of the French subsidiary interviewed on the Ducati stand, who tells us that the old Hypermotard block met the previous standards (Euro3).

For 2016, the entire range also benefits from a three-level configurable ABS, eight-degree adjustable traction control and three injection maps.

The Hypermotard 939 family is structured as currently around three versions: standard (181 kg dry), SP (178 kg) and Hyperstrada (187 kg dry).

The main differences mainly concern the equipment: more upscale, the Hypermotard SP 939, for example, displays fully adjustable Ohlins suspensions, including a superb inverted fork of 50 mm in diameter. Its seat height is 890 mm (850 mm on the standard version) and its tires are Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SP (Diablo Rosso II on the standard version and Scorpion Trail on the Hyperstrada).

More couple and still so much fun !

This SP also receives Marchesini forged rims, a radial master cylinder, magnesium cylinder head covers, a specific aluminum handlebar and a carbon fender. LCD instrumentation is similar to all three versions and displays – finally! – the gear engaged in addition to a multitude of other information (time, fuel, trips, etc.).

Regarding the Hyperstrada 939, original and surprising road version, it can be recognized among others by its windshield (not adjustable), its grab handles, its central stand and its semi-rigid saddlebags installed as standard (top case optional).

Its handlebars and saddle (lower: 810 mm) are modified for better comfort and two 12V sockets are installed.

This Hyperstrada receives the same suspensions as the standard Hypermotard 939, a Kayaba inverted fork and Sachs monoshock. Their travel is slightly reduced to facilitate access: 170 mm at the front and 150 mm at the rear on the standard against 130 mm and 133 mm for the Strada ("road" in Italian). Braking, common to all three versions, revolves around 4-piston Brembo radially mounted calipers.

The three Hypermotard 939 will be available mid-January 2016, Ducati tells us at the following prices:

  • Standard hypermotard: € 11,990 in red and, strangely, € 12,190 in white !
  • Hypermotard SP: € 15,490
  • Hyperstrada: € 13,450
