Despite a big visor problem, Sofuoglu largely dominated the French Supersport race when he fell. Van den Mark had the potential to win, but fell too. The victory therefore goes to an irreproachable Cluzel.
Supersport Race
Kenan Sofuoglu took the best start ahead of Jules Cluzel and Lucas Mahias but a fall occurred in the middle of the peloton: Wahr, Nocco and Tangre found themselves in the gravel from the first turn. In front, Mahias momentarily slips into the lead but Sofuoglu and Cluzel complete the first lap far ahead of Van den Mark, Mahias, Marino, Tamburini, Kennedy, Zanetti, Rolfo, Jacobsen, etc..
The No. 54 Kawasaki accelerated again on the second lap and climbed more than two seconds behind our national No. 16 (MV Agusta)! The n ° 60 Honda takes a little time from Jules and moves away from Luca Mahias. The 2014 French champion unfortunately loses control of his Yamaha which goes straight through the inflatable protection barriers (Airfence).
Kenan Sofuoglu eliminates all suspense by chaining a series of five lap times one to two seconds lower than those of Jules Cluzel and Michael van den Mark, themselves above the rest! Jack Kennedy is in a lonely fourth place, but the Irishman falls on the seventh pass in Estoril.
A moment later, Michael Van den Mark fell in the middle of Adelaide and therefore gave up his 3rd place to his team-mate Lorenzo Zanetti. But the 2014 world champion – yes already! – "Magic Michael" quickly climbs back on his motorbike … and on the hunting party made up of Tamburini, Rolfo, Marino and … Zanetti !
Meanwhile, Sofuoglu continues to turn at a breakneck pace as he is forced to open his visor at the ends of the straight! The Turk ends up find exceed the limits of his Pirelli before braking Adelaide and spreads in the gravel, from where his ZX-6R does not restart.
Jules Cluzel thus inherits the lead of the race. He was 23 seconds ahead of Rolfo, then followed by Marino and Van den Mark who climbed back to second place in the 10th lap despite his crash! The Dutchman is the fastest on the track and leaves Marino to fight against Rolfo and Zanetti for the third step of the podium. Coghlan is a few lengths in sixth position.
Ultra conscientious, "Julo" leads his MV Agusta as a master’s glove on the tricky Magny-Cours track. Our Coq Supersportif allows himself to give up a few tenths of a second to Van den Mark and his CBR600RR but it doesn’t matter: he is still 20 seconds ahead of n ° 60 when the red flag is waved on the finish line, at the end of 12th round…
Race marshals are busy around an Airfence and the race direction logically decides to stop the race, the safety of the marshals but also that of the pilots is no longer guaranteed..
Jules Cluzel therefore won his third victory of the season and climbed to second place in the championship, 12 points ahead of his – our! – compatriot Florian Marino, fifth in this small but intense French round. The podium is completed by Van den Mark and Rolfo, "old wolf" of WSBK and MotoGP…
