Matra Sports takes advantage of the Mondial du deux-Roues to present its MS1, a hybrid moped that combines electrical energy… and human energy! Discovery. Always on the lookout for innovations, Site presented the launch of the electric Solex two years ago (read).
In the same vein, Matra Sports is offering this year to the public a world premiere of a "hybrid" electric bike / motorcycle….
Usually focused on the technology of four-wheel electric vehicles, the idea came in 2005 to engineers at Matra to look at the two-wheeler, observing the performance of downhill mountain bikes to which it could seem astute to associate an energy for … the ascent !
Neither a scooter, nor really a moped although it is classified as such, the MS1 must according to its designer be considered a "ATV / Motorcycle"! Its motor with a power of 1000 watts allows it, from a standing start, faster acceleration than many 125cc scooters.
As for the "gearbox", it comes down to a carbon derailleur while the braking is provided by a disc on each wheel with a diameter of 400 mm … seriously ?
The motor of the MS1 is, like that of all mopeds, "restricted" to 45 km / h but nothing prevents its user from increasing this speed on descents thanks to energetic pedaling on the longest gear. !
The "fuel" is drawn between the human energy of the driver and the electrical energy of the battery located in the hub of the front wheel. The "hybrid" side of the machine allows a choice between three types of power source, human, mixed or only electric. This makes the autonomy relatively interesting since it is around 100 km according to the manufacturer.
The MS1 is available in two versions: city or "off road" and should be marketed in spring 2008. No less than 227 distributors of Matra products are already located in France and Belgium. Matra Sports’ objective is to award the distribution of this "green" two-wheeler to around one hundred French distributors for its launch..
The selling price should be between 3000 and 3500 euros depending on the model (city or off road). To be continued !
