Winter time is handicraft time. And those who do not have their own workshop can try their hand at filigree paper models. Yamaha offers numerous models of its own history as paper craft sheets.

Even if your own bike has to rest in the garage in winter, the motorcycling spirit does not have to be content with idleness. The Japanese motorcycle manufacturer is doing great preparation for the season Yamaha ready for this – paper craft models – too good German: paper craft sheets for motorcycles.

Anyone who thinks of nasty folding sheets that can be shaped into a winter bike for the living room with a little glue, a pair of scissors and a little patience, is wrong.

Depending on the kit, different amounts of paper are required. But patience is always required.

Yamaha divides its free offer into different categories. For beginners are in the category “Realistic paper crafts” there are currently ten striking models from Yamaha’s recent past to choose from. Origami artists can use a 90 V-Max, a 91 YZF-R1, an XJR 1300 from 2000, a DSC11 from 2001, a SR400 from 2002, a 2002 T-Max scooter, a YZR-M1 from 2004 (also as a US special model) as well as a YT 450 FM from 2005 and a YZF-R1 from 2007.

The models in this class correspond to the scale 1: 6 and are constructed about 35 centimeters long. They are made from around 175 to 200 parts and devour 16 to 25 sheets of A4 paper of slightly thicker quality (135 g). The templates are supplied in PDF format with a total file size of around 1 MB – optionally in black and white or in color. As a guarantee of success, there are also detailed assembly instructions.

With the YA-1, Yamaha is celebrating 20 years of Paper Crafts.

Anyone who already sees themselves in the rank of an origami professional can go to the category “Ultra-Realistic Paper Crafts” change – quasi the MotoGP among the paper artists. As the title suggests, the models here are getting more detailed and bigger. The scale changes to 1: 5.5, the finished models are around 44 centimeters long. The material requirement increases enormously. Around 800 pieces have to be cut out, folded and shaped from a good 50 sheets of paper. The corresponding PDF downloads add up to a good 10 MB, the assembly instructions flush a further 35 MB onto the hard drive.

In this class, Yamaha has the MT-10 from 2016, the YZF-R1M from 2014, the V-Max from 2009, the MT-01 and the brand new YA-1 from 1955. The latter is the first motorcycle ever built by Yamaha. At the same time, Yamaha is celebrating 20 years of Paper Crafts models with this handicraft sheet.

Dioramas for motorsport fans

Rally handicraft fans are served with a large off-road diorama.

But motorsport fans also get their handicraft costs. Complete dioramas are available in the racing and rally categories. For example, Valentino Rossi is allowed to race through the legendary Corkscrew curve in Laguna Seca with the YZR-M1 in 2013, while the crowd cheers in the background. The rally department is dedicated to the Dakar and shows the XTZ 850 R from 1995 in the dunes and the YZ 450 F from 2014 in difficult terrain. Here the dimensions are already in the range of furniture (Rossi: 49.5x45x120 cm and Dakar: 90x86x70 cm). The need for paper is also increasing enormously, 332 sheets for Rossi and 246 sheets for Dakar.
