As one of Germany’s undisputed tourist highlights, the Rhine with its cliffs, vineyards, castles and pretty places is definitely worth a trip even on two wheels.

But if you really want to drive around bends with your motorcycle, you should look for these wonderful roads that lead out of the narrow Rhine Valley into scenic corners of the Rheingau mountains, Hunsruck, Lahntal and Taunus. .

  1. Rhine between Eltville and Bingen. The Rhine, which mostly flows from south to north, forms an east-west section here in the Rheingau, thus enabling south-facing valley slopes that are among the best wine and sparkling wine locations in Germany. Rudesheim is one of the most famous wine towns in Germany and a tourist magnet.
  2. Rhine between Lorch and Braubach. World-class cruising: In 2002, UNESCO made the Upper Middle Rhine between Bingen and Koblenz a World Heritage Site. Anyone who tours comfortably here in the heart of the World Heritage knows why that was the case.
  3. Lahn valley. The Lahntal is one of the most romantic river valleys in Germany and you do what the river does: flow in relaxed swings at a moderate pace through a contemplative landscape. Castles, palaces and dreamy river landscapes line the path (www.daslahntal.de).
  4. Limburg. Limburg with its beautiful late Romanesque cathedral is well worth a detour. The best thing to do is to park your motorcycle and explore the winding streets of the old town. They show half-timbered architecture in its purest form (www.limburg.de).
  5. Aartal and Taunus. The perfect stub drive south into the Taunus. The settlements are being left behind more and more, and the road bores into the Taunus with ever more winding curves. You pass Hohenstein Castle, which is one of the most beautiful and largest castle ruins in the Taunus.

  1. Hunsruck detour. No trip on the Rhine without a Rhine ferry. The jump over the river opens with Bingen the gate to the eastern Hunsruck with more curvy stretches than the old father Rhine has to offer.
  2. Bacharach. Bacharach can be reached after a wonderful descent down into the Rhine Valley, past the magnificent Stahleck Castle. The half-timbered houses in the old town are worth seeing, especially the famous old house from 1389. Even today a wine house with food (Tel. 06743/1209).
  3. Wisper Valley. Well worth it because of the smaller rivers: The valley of the Wisper, which slopes down to the Rhine, turns out to be a wonderfully winding insert with the varied valley landscape of a small river. Castle ruins line the romantic route with their winding dangles. Nice to drive!
  4. Idstein. In Idstein too, half-timbering is the trump card. The crooked house is a strange curiosity. As an encore, there is the mighty castle from the 12th century and an imposing gate.
  5. Grober Feldberg and Hochtaunus. At 879 meters, the Grobe Feldberg is the boss in the Tau- nus, and winding mountain stretches are popular in its surroundings. If you want to go even higher, climb the 40 meter high observation tower and enjoy a wide panoramic view of the neighboring low mountain ranges such as Vogelsberg and Rhon, but also to the neighboring brother, the small Feldberg at 825 meters.
