Market reports - Red October for sales of motorcycles and scooters in France - Red October for the motorcycle market

After having drunk the cup at the start of the school year, the French motorcycle market drowned in October and found itself 1503 registrations below the level of October 2014 … This drop of -13.6% is due to the decline of 125 and diving large cubes. Balance sheet.

Red October for the motorcycle market

In September 2015, registrations of scooters and motorcycles over 50 cc (motorized two-wheelers excluding mopeds) had suffered a decline of -1%. They plunged further in October, so that in 2015 the market is likely to go below the surface next month….

Over the first ten months of 2015, there were 127,014 registrations of motorcycles in France, 372 more than last year over the same period. However, in October 2015, the market was in deficit by 1,503 immats (9,545 against 11,048: read our). How to explain this decrease of -13.6%? By the weather, maybe ?

"Continuing from September, October was cooler than normal for much of the month with a peak of cold from the 14th to the 16th."Observes Meteo France. If the average drop is only -0.8 ° C, we can think that the sudden drop in temperatures has cooled more than one biker (1503, exactly ?!).

But at the same time, the low level of precipitation in October 2015 (except for the two intense Mediterranean episodes) was good for business. At Site, moreover, we consider that the rain is more penalizing than the cold … in terms of market balance as in terms of driving !

To – try to – be positive, it is possible to point the finger at the calendar: dealers had one working day less to hook up the customer and register their new vehicle: 22 working days (Monday to Friday) in October 2015 compared to 23 in October 2014.

But here again, the culprit is not ideal since the dealers worked as much in October 2015 as in October 2014: during these two months, the professionals benefited from 23 days of dealership openings (from Tuesday to Saturday) to bait enthusiasts – of motorcycles -, have them sign the order form and register their machine…

Manufacturers and their networks can only hope that the month of November – incredibly mild for the moment – will make bikers and scooter riders want to ride, or even buy. At the beginning of December, the Paris Motor Show will aim to (re) birth the passion for motorized two-wheelers and … to increase registrations !

In the meantime, Site makes the – tenth! – update on the motorcycle market in France. First of all in the 125 sector, where the Top 3 models did not change compared to September and where sales fell by -9.4% compared to October 2014.

Then on the sector of the largest displacements, where the leading quartet (Tmax, MT-07, MT-09 and ER-6) is completely upset and where the programmed end of the law of 100 hp undoubtedly contributes to the fall of all sales of "more than 125 cc" (-16.1%).
