Turbulent October for the Motorcycle Market

The had already been hot in France, but that of 2014 was more so: "temperatures averaged 2.4 ° C above normal, making October the fourth hottest month since 1900 behind 2001, 2006 and 1995", calculates Meteo France.

Shunned in 2013 by the French (read our), the 125 cc took advantage of the sun to get out of concessions: 4,050 small-displacement motorcycles and scooters (over 50 cc and up to 125 cc) found takers last month.

First brand in the 125 ranking, Yamaha is among the best in terms of growth (+ 63.8%) and is making a major contribution to the increase in the sector. Peugeot, MBK, Suzuki and Mash are also good elements. Honda and Piaggio, on the contrary, have less good results (-17.5 and -13.4%).

Among large engines (motorcycles and scooters over 125 cc), Yamaha is far less efficient than a year ago (-19.2%) and sees its first place coveted by the extraordinary BMW (+35, 5%). The rest of the Top 10 is just as heterogeneous. We note the appearance in 10th position of Mash…

In total, 11,048 motorcycle registrations (125 cc and large cubes) were recorded in France last month, representing an increase of + 4.4% compared to October 2013. And unlike, this increase is not due on the calendar since the two months of October had exactly the same number of working days (23). Ditto for the opening days of concessions (from Tuesday to Saturday most often).
