Top 50 of the most popular bikes in Germany
The motorcycle market recorded an increase of 4.3 percent in 2019, the light motorcycles even increased by 13.5 percent. We’ll show you the top 50 new registrations.

The two-wheeler market in Germany includes motorcycles, light motorcycles up to 125 cm³, scooters and light motor scooters. Compared to 2018, this market grew by 5.9 percent in 2019, with motorcycles recording an increase of 4.3 percent, light motorcycles an increase of 13.5 and scooters with a displacement of over 125 cm³ an increase of 18.5 percent . New registrations of light scooters, in turn, fell by 1.3 percent.
In 2019, a total of 112,122 motorcycles with a displacement of over 125 cm³ were newly registered in Germany. In the same period of the previous year (2018) there were 107,534 motorcycles, in 2017 100,128 units. The federal state with the most new motorcycle registrations is still Bavaria (27,243), followed at a distance by North Rhine-Westphalia (20,553), Baden-Wurttemberg (17,585) and Lower Saxony (10,362).
Most popular motorcycle brands 2019
The hit list of motorcycle brands in Germany was again led by BMW in 2019 – with a market share of 22 percent. In second place is KTM with a market share of 11.6 percent. The Austrians were fourth in 2018 and overtake Kawasaki and Honda in 2019. Honda is now in third place with 11.5 percent, followed by Kawasaki with 11.3 percent, Yamaha with 11.2 percent and Harley-Davidson with 9.1 percent market share. The gap only becomes clearer from seventh onwards: Suzuki has 4.8 percent of the market, Ducati 4.6 percent, Triumph 4.4 percent and Husqvarna 2.6 percent market share. Compared to 2018, Royal Enfield made up three places and jumped from 14th to 11th place, overtaking Aprilia.
Motorcycles in the top ten
Although the new Honda Africa Twin CRF 1100 L leads the new registration statistics in December 2019, it only came in 108th place with 289 new registrations in 2019 as a whole – not surprising since sales did not start until October 2019.
The undisputed number one in 2019 is the BMW R 1250 GS, which with 9,417 new registrations only competes against itself or its predecessor – and even wins this comparison by a huge margin: the BMW R 1200 GS recorded a total of “only” 7,304 new registrations in 2018.
Compared to the 2018 annual ranking, not too much has changed in the top ten: the Yamaha MT-07 rolls steadily into second place, followed by the Kawasaki Z 900 and Z 650. The KTM is brand new in the top ten this year 690 SMC, which ranks between the Yamaha MT-09 (9th place) and the BMW F 750 GS (11th place) with 1,643 new registrations.
Commercial motorcycle registrations
The BMW S 1000 RR has the highest proportion of commercial registrations (66.2), with BMW almost achieving a single-brand Top 10 if the Ducati Multistrada weren’t there.

The KTM Super Duke GT had the lowest share of new commercial motorcycle registrations in the top 50 at 5.1 percent.
Number of models per manufacturer
Regardless of the total number and market share, BMW has the most models in the top 50, eleven in number. KTM is bringing in eight models, seven from Honda, six from Kawasaki, five from Harley-Davidson, four from Yamaha, four from Suzuki, two from Ducati and one model each from Husqvarna and Moto Guzzi and represented triumph.
